Day 5- Día 5

Tuesday, June 18
Today was our second day of school. After breakfast, we got ready for school. We went to school, had our classes, and then went to the market. We took a bus there, and split up into our classes. We looked around and saw so much stuff. There were DVDs, headphones, fruits and vegetables, cards, toys, traditional foods, and lots of other things. The name of the market is El Tianguis. We stayed there for about an hour and a half.  We returned to Casa Carmen for another delicious meal.

Lunch consisted of sopa de espinacas y chiles capeados. After a relaxing for a while, we left again for the school.  At school, a teacher who has been participating in Aztec dances for 15 years gave us a presentation about these rituals. The teacher had all of the necessary equipment for such a dance: “la lluvia” (a hollow bamboo pole with pebbles inside to create rain sound), “el caracol” (a conch shell used to call the dancers to the ceremony,  “el penacho” (the ceremonial headdress with many feathers), “el atuendo” (the attire needed), and many more.  We all put on the attire and performed the Aztec dance, following the teacher’s lead.  After our Aztec dancing, we left for the park to play basketball.  We returned to Casa Carmen tired, and we rested until dinner.  Dinner consisted of soup and churros with hot chocolate.  When asked about the churros, Kai said, “I died from how good it was.” We all gathered in the television room to watch game six of the NBA finals before going to bed.

Kai dijo sobre los churros, “I died from how good it was.”
